Overview of Christianity
Spiritual Maturity
The sin nature is handed down genetically from parent to child from generation to generation by means of the dad. That is why the bible says, 'through Adam all have sinned.' His sin was a conscious and chosen sin. Eve's sin was by means of deception from Satan.
Jesus Christ was born of a virgin (no human father) and thus was not born with a sin nature.
In the soul there are several ingredients - volition, mentality, conscience, emotion, and self-consciousness.
The soul is also said to have three active components. The mind, which is the storage place of the soul, the heart, which is the functional or circulation activity of the soul, and the emotions which are the appreciation or reactive aspects of the soul.
Volition is the decision making aspect of the soul.
Mentality is the learning aspect of the soul and into it is stored vocabulary and academics, and life's learning experiences.
Conscience holds the norms and standards aspects of the soul. Into this goes the standards that are learned from life, from education, from learning right from wrong, from what is or is not acceptable in society.
Self-consciousness is your self-awareness, your orientation to, or awareness of the people and places and things around you in life.
Now, there is one other aspect of the soul, its nourishment and growth.
The soul is a living entity. It is the container of your human life. And as such, it needs to be fed just as your human body needs food in order to sustain it.
The body that lacks food or proper food, generally develops weaknesses, is subject to disease or other problems and will generally be unhealthy. Given time and no nourishment, the body eventually dies.
The soul is no different. It requires proper nourishment and exercise.
Bible doctrine is the spiritually recommended food for the soul. Application of that doctrine is the spiritual exercise of the soul. But note, there are two different types of mental nourishment.
Mental nourishment is simply information. And information is the ingredient that drives the soul.
There is academic or temporal information, and then there is spiritual information.
The academic information comes from the physical world around us and is gained from school, from home, from life's experiences and so forth. Academic information is assimilated into the soul through the five senses - seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and feeling.
Spiritual information comes from the bible, but must be assimilated into the soul by means of the spirit while living in fellowship. Remember that the sphere of fellowship is the realm entered into by means of confession of your sins to God the Father.
When in fellowship, then all aspects of your learning experience, will function spiritually.
